Online Magic Tricks: Nothing But Math and Logic

Magicians are a tricky for a lot of people. They even claim that they can transfer their powers to websites by performing tricks online using diagrams and mind-reading techniques.

The truth is, these online magic tricks produce predictable results based on mathematical equations guised as magic. One of the popular online magic tricks is called the “Mental Prediction”.

This magic trick has been performed several times before but it involves nothing but good old mathematics. First, the website will ask you to pick a number between two and nine. Then it will ask you to multiply that number by 9 and add the two digit answer together.

For example if you chose three and multiplied it by nine, you'll get 27. Adding two and seven you get nine.

The website will then ask you to take the sum or the resulting number and deduct 5 from it. Your number will correspond to a letter in the alphabet (A=1, B=2 and so on).

Now think of a country that begins with that letter. Take the second letter of that country and think of an animal that starts with that letter. At the end the website will say “I didn't know there were elephants in Denmark.”

Obviously, all the answers to the previous equations will produce the letter “D”. Since the most popular country that begins with D is Denmark, and elephant is the most common animal beginning with the letter “E”, the answer is easy to predict.

Although this trick is available online, you could use this without having to connect to the Internet. You can perform this trick to other people by simply memorizing the formula.

Another online magic trick is called The Clock. Again, it involves a simple mathematical formula which gives a common predictable answer.

Here, a clock is shown on a website. The website will ask you to choose any number. Then, it will ask you to subtract the number directly opposite the number you chose.

For example, if you chose three, the number directly opposite that is nine. The website-magician will predict to you the difference or answer of the formula which is six.

You will notice though that no matter what number you choose, subtracting it with the number directly opposite it will always give six as the correct answer.
